This painting was created from memories of a few different trips to Connemara, which is our go-to anytime we need a break. My husband, Gerry , and I both adore the sea especially the wild Atlantic way along the West of Ireland. I love how bolshie the seagulls are and there's something so evocative ( or annoying, depending on my mood) about their screeching. He is front of house, strutting his stuff and looking for any opportunity for food. But look a bit closer and you will see my favourite little seabirds, the sanderlings. I just adore the way they run in and out in unison with each other and the waves searching for food together. They can be hard to spot, and you have to tune your eyes in to watch them. Such joyous little creatures. I can't wait for my next trip to the West, but in the meantime this will remind me of those happy walks on the beaches, near Ballyconeely in Connemara.
